The clocks changed today. It is all so confusing and I write this in the early evening. It has been pitch black for what seems ages and it feels like midnight. I got up at 8.30am but it was yesterday's 9.30 am. So what? The problem is I have a cheap watch which needs a manual change by buttons. I cannot make the hour go back! So I shall spend six months trying to remember that my watch is an hour fast....unless I find a person under ten years old for they are the geniuses who will, like all computer wizards, change it in a trice! Oh how I feel I am handing the world over to a remarkable and very different generation. Have we passed on problems like pollution, climate change, corrupt Capitalism, hunger and wars and exploitation across the globe? Is the world a better place because of me...what a terrifying but vital question to ask oneself.
I did stream Mass form Canada so I can at least Google. It was a sermon on the first commandment of love. The priest quoted Teresa of Avila and Dame Julian of Norwich both of whom said one cannot love God without loving humanity and vice versa. If you claim to love God and do not love your neighbour you are a liar. Do I love every single person? Or is that just a stupid nonsensical question?
I pondered it as I walked. I walked a new route around the back of a nearby village. I got lost and went miles...too many for my age and state of mind and I did not solve my thoughts! But I came across two houses outside of which was a notice saying "help yourself, windfalls". So I helped myself to apples, stewed them when I got home and have frozen some.
My friend who went to see the geese in Leven Loch is ecstatic. She said it was simply mind blowingly remarkable. She has photographs of the sky blackened by flying geese. They were like swarming bees she noted. It was a superb dawn of pinks, blues, ochre, yellows and the whole panoply of the heavenly colour palette. But even as the sun brightened dramatically so it darkened dramatically hidden by geese off to graze.
I shall sleep well because my 9pm to bed routine will be 10pm! When will my 9am rise be 9am?
Tomorrow I have a date for breakfast, for a new wing mirror and for picking crab apples. I will need much rest to cope with the excitement!!
