Tuesday 20th April, 2021

The weather forecast was such that I looked forward to the rain. The ground is parched and my water butt empty. It is now 16.15 and there have been a few dribbles of rain, what was called by my dotty great uncle 'a spit from heaven'. I managed a walk this afternoon and saw huge great banks of black clouds and felt a little sprinkling of water on my arm but it came to nothing. I had speeded up in case of heavy showers but no luck. It is chilly and a few people on the walk hoped for and commented on the need for rain.

This morning I went off to see a great friend. We meet most Tuesday's and talk of goodly things. She gave me a mushroom and garlic omelette and a delicious chocolate mousse and showed me two stunning paintings she has kindly done for me. One is of Norman's Law a high hill near her home where once, while walking, we spotted a dead sheep, the view therefrom is stunning right across the Tay and over to Perth. I love the hill with its shape and colours a Scottish joy. The other is of Wormit Bay where we sometimes take a breakfast. They are stupendous and I am overwhelmed by gratitude and embarrassment. She is kind and thoughtful and knows what touches the soul.

I returned home and then walked. Not much litter but I went via the local park and their lakes to check that the six ducklings were still there and alive. They were.

So a quiet mildly chilly day and sadly no rain as yet. So I shall read and pray. As I do the latter I wonder what prayer is about. I believe God listens, I believe He knows our needs, I believe He loves us and I believe at times he answers prayers as we request them but I am left with having hope and trust and acceptance as well as a belief that wavers yet is strong. I pinch myself and say God is ineffable. Also the weather is its own mistress and we are not gods.
