I know I go on about it but the weather this morning and indeed all day has been superb. A sharp frost but a sunny dawn with clear blue skies. Across the Tay the snow dusted hills of Angus reflected the sun's rays with a n extra dazzle. A day to be enjoyed. The evening sunset was spectacular also.
By midday I was on my way to Tayport. Along the Fife Coastal path with skeins of geese, herons, oyster catchers, a snipe and waders galore and one field with over a thousand seagulls, rooks and pigeons feasting on some grub or other. When they rose in a flock it was spectacular but rather like a Hitchcock movie such as 'Birds'.
My trusty litter grabber came with me. Only three bags with dog pooh bags heading the most numerous list followed by masks and cigarette packets. Three fellow walkers commented on my mild endeavours. One lady vented her spleen on the litter bugs and said that if she with Multiple Sclerosis could bin her rubbish so could they all.
Through an empty Tayport as we are mostly locked down. On toward Tentsmuir Forest but I espied a bus going back to my village. So I got on, the only passenger.
Arriving home I was greeted by the news that our leader had said 'Everyone to meet no one on hogmanay'. It was then that I realised that I had posted my two letters but one had had no address for I found the label lying on my floor. I had been so excited at finding a pink envelope and a first class stamp. I had written a letter from the heart to an old friend. "Less haste and more speed" came to mind. But I sat and wrote another and have since posted it. Foolish.
I went with Venturetrips to Berlin. It was a most informative tour ending up at the Holocaust Memorial. The guide was eloquent, honest and factual and well informed. It is a Memorial to the six million Jews murdered by the Nazi regime. He mentioned also the Jehovah Witnesses, the Communists, the homosexuals, the Romany and other minorities also murdered. We saw the famous Hitler Bunker....and heard of Hitler and Braum committing suicide and their bodies being burned. All I could think was that it goes on. Do we never learn.
Here is where I turned to one of my favourite sayings of Rumi:
"Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing
there is a field. I'll meet you there."
Yes, there is a Reality beyond this, a place, a state of being, a myth where all shall be well. Such a knowledge keeps me going. As an old wise scatty uncle once said to me
" believe it even if it is not true for you will make it true ".
