After spending most of yesterday in bed and then sleeping for eleven hours over night I woke at 9am in the finest fettle. I was a little hungry as I had not eaten much yesterday. Sadly the scales in the bathroom did not register a fall!! Anyway delicious breakfast of sourdough and home made jellies.
Then to Mass and hearing Isaiah and his vision of the end time. The great banquet of fine foods and fine wines. What fun that will be. And the fun continued when one heard of the vaccine potentials and the acceptance of its use in the Country. A great deal of hope. I popped in to a charity jumble and even there the few talked of seeing a light in the tunnel.
It was a glorious day. Cold with a clear sky and a strong sun. Bracing.
After a longish walk via finding a reduced Hummus for sale at 27p I returned to books. I picked up Abbot Chapman and just have to share this. It fills me with thought and wonder.
"Now starting from these two fixed points :
1. God...a the one, the All, the Immutable, unconditioned necessary etc
2. The Cosmos, including matters and mind, and myself, ...arbitrary and improbable and unaccountable; there is but one solution possible, which I had from religion...
God made the Cosmos
Why? It was a very odd thing to do!
And what an extraordinary universe to invent! Just fancy inventing matter! And thinking of such a thing as time...or space. Very clever of Him no doubt...most ingenious, to imagine such extremely curious facts as co existence and succession. But very arbitrary and absurd...one might say Insane."
"Of course there are many odd and most improbable things in the world besides space and time and matter..such as colour and light and music, right and wrong, pain, wonder..and so forth..not to talk of the moon
Why things do not fall upwards, why I cannot describe heat and cold, why things do not look, larger at a distance."
Is this not wonderful...as marvellous as a vaccine.
