Wednesday 21st April, 2021

Another glorious day and woken by the sun. Sadly we had hoped for rain yesterday but none came but who am I to deny the gorgeous sunny spring weather. Off to Mass but only three of us there, one usual parishioner was suffering a bad reaction to his second Covid vaccine jab. We prayed for him and heard all for his wife after the service.

I walked in to the village to the new shop which is building a good reputation for all sorts. I went to see if there was something special for the first course of the lunch to celebrate my landlady's daughter's birthday. It was an Aladdin

s cave full of lots of delicious delights including Tony's chocolate, my favourite. I bought some smoked prosciutto and came across Minger cheese, which I had had once before. It is a local cheese like Pont l'Eveque and is a favourite of the birthday girl.

Then she arrived and played duets with her Mother and then I sent them on to the patio to prepare a BBQ. We were to have venison burgers. I then made four salads, prepared the prosciutto with gherkins and olives and sourdough bread. I put the cheese on a board with biscuits, brought out the home made walnut tart with cream and then went to collect them. It was a surprise for them both. We had the first course then went down stairs to BBQ the burgers and brought them back up to have with buns and the salads and various relishes. After that she opened presents and then the cheese and pudding. After a coffee I walked.

I had eaten too much for I always get others what I myself enjoy and when I see my favourite foods I am a glutton.

The walk was lovely over my beloved hills with views across Fife, the Tay and Perthshire. One bag of litter and then a return to check on the six ducklings on the local Park's lake...they were there in full.

Now I am having a short siesta. I feel good but still bloated!

I have written an email to Johnny Mercer the out going Minister for the veterans...I am appalled by how he has been treated. He has already asked me. More sleaze it seems but I am just too fed up with it even to rage. I feel like the 79 year old I meet often on my walk. Today he told me he was feeling really good for he has a hair cut booked for Monday and a second jab on Friday! "I count my blessings and discount my trials", he told me. What a marvellous motto.
