There are some days when all one can say is ' it was blessed'.
Today was such a day. A truly beloved friend came. She brought the most superb picnic of all the foods I especially relish. Yet the real point of the joy of her visit was that I felt utterly relaxed, totally conscious of her friendship and therefor could discuss some of those hard issues which normally one represses or glosses over or runs from. And there are some hard issues I face and she did talk openly and honestly and with wisdom and insight. Also so much in common that one could sit in silence and feel uplifted and at peace.
I like to put it this way. The central sacrament of the Roman Catholic Church is the Eucharist. It is based upon a sacred Jewish meal. The meal has, I believe, always been the focus of sharing, friendship, communality. Where ever, whenever one eats and breaks bread with another or others one is undergoing, participating in a divine act, a fully human act of relationship. Thus sharing a meal with a close friend is, to me, sacred. So to have a friend today and talk and share over an especially delicious and thought out meal makes the whole day a pure blessing.
This sounds clumsy but I simply mean "it was brilliant"
Sun shone also, hens laid eggs, tortoise ate dandelions, sheep and Pygmy goat grazed happily and dog was placidly happy.
What greater blessing is there.
