St Peter and St Paul, Monday 29th June, 2020

It was just so reassuring to stream Mass from Limerick this morning. A congregation had been allowed in to the Church under strict distancing rules. One felt a sense of relief that perhaps the essentials will be coming back. Of course I read, at the same time, of spikes of infection and further localised shut downs as well as protests in Texas against masks. The world is Topsy turvy and all sorts are happening. I can only do what I see fit in the environment in which I find myself and hope good will prevail across the world. Hope is essential as is the love of friends.

I had to pick up more incontinent pants! Oh dear more reminders of debilitation. Still, I am able to laugh!

When I got home a message awaited me from the doctor who is to operate on me on 14th July so long as tomorrow's pre assessment is satisfactory. There is such an assortment of advice. The nurses had told me that from tomorrow I was to isolate but exercise was important to try to get as fit as possible. Well, the doctor today seemed very put out that I was not already locked down in my room. He said walking was not to be encouraged as it may be the cause of my bleeding. When the advice of the nurses was put to him he seemed to pooh-pooh it! Ah well! What I do know is that I am grateful to all who are trying to sort me out. First the nurses giving me the pants, then the nurses on the phone re my assessment, then those advising of the rules and regulations, then the others who have written to me about it all and finally the doctor. Of course also my friend who answered the phone and fended off the horror of the doctor!

There is no miracle cure. There is not a straight forward path. There is no exact science or ways and means, but there are a lot of people, including the tax payer, onside. Thank you.

St Peter denied Jesus yet died for him. St Paul persecuted Jesus's followers yet also died for belief in him. What an example. There is no slot machine answer...life is about living it as it comes however Topsy turvy it might be. No one way but each of us individually in response to the current daily circumstances and conditions.
