Do you ever do foolish things? Last night I took a detective novel to read in bed. When I am preparing to sleep I like something which is not too taxing on the mind. So to bed at 10pm and washed, brushed teeth and puffed up my pillows. I settled and picked up the book. Sadly within a few minutes I was engrossed in the story of drug dealer against a good renegade policeman. Quick snappy writing and I was engaged in the good versus evil thriller.

I put the book down at midnight and thought I must sleep. I did. I also dreamed of indistinct figures fighting each other...a muddled garbled unmemorable jumble of action and inaction. I woke at 3.30am with my mind spinning. Foolishly I picked up the book to take my mind off my mind, as it were. Yes, at 5.20am I realised I was still reading. An act of supreme will power made me dump the book and turn the light off. I was rewarded with 3plus hours of sleep.

I am a little tired now but have been to see my guru, as I call him. ' Concentrate on the present moment, listen intently to music and learn to hear the silence, ' he recommended when I complained of my ever spinning mind. " What is wisdom? " I asked him aloud. And his reply has made my mind spin more ' knowing the Lord and knowing there is no answer'.

Time to finish my book and have a siesta! I do love life.
